Our cable provider decided to cut us off again, so we didn't have a TV or Internet signal on this Sunday afternoon. The sun was still up, so we grabbed the cameras and went out for a walk.

I noticed the reed against the sun and how the leaves form a curtain with horizontal and vertical layers. I like how the bokeh came out on this shot.

In case you wonder, I used a Minolta MD Macro 50mm f/3.5 for this shot.

I love taking a camera with me, even on ordinary work days. On the way back home, I just pause and take the time to take in the scenery of commuters going home.

Full Moon

Two days later, I tried again. Clear skies, a rapid temperature drop after a lot of rain, very windy.

The air seemed cleaner, so I was hoping for better results. I think the result is not too bad.

The Moon

I bought a Minolta MC Tele Rokkor HF f/4.0 300mm lens a while ago. Together with a Makinon converter it offers 600mm focal length. Adapting that combination to my Olympus E-520, I end up with 1200mm focal length.

As that combination is really heavy, I need to use a remote control to operate the camera. And even then, the mirror inside the E-520 body is causing a lot of problems ( I can see the use case for a micro 4/3 body here...).

I bought that lens cheap at a local shop in Hamburg, hoping to be able to get a couple of good shots at the moon. This is my first try. It's a single shot at f/22.

One thing I noticed is that the moon actually is really fast when looked at with 1200mm focal length. There's a window of about maybe 10 seconds to get a shot when your camera setup is focussed on the moon centre. Amazing.

I am really looking forward to try this shot with a mirrorless body next year.

Here I am, in one of the most beautiful locations in China and I can't help but notice the texture of a nail being forced into a piece of wood, while standing on a rooftop with a breathtaking view over the roofs of Dali. What's wrong with me?!

The water of the Alster in Hamburg has a weird green colour since a couple of days. I have no idea why.

A common guillemot at Helgoland's shore in the German Bay. This particular bird seems to be a young specimen as the feathers are still freckled with black (if I got that right, I am no expert on birds).

Helgoland's Lummenfelsen" (guillemot rock) is the world's smallest wildlife preserve. Hundreds of guillemots breed in the rock, not afraid to showcase their artistic flying (sometimes "falling with style") so close up, you got the feeling you can just touch them as they fly by.

Thistle Crown

The coloured threads of a thistle head look like a feathered crown, especially close up.

I used a Minolta MD Macro 50mm on top of an intermediate ring on my E-520. The crop factor of 4/3s makes this a 2:1 super macro. The actual object was about one cm in size. I had to take a couple of shots to get one that was in focus correctly as I was shooting without a tripod and the plants were swinging in the wind. Patience is everything...
